Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal of India
The Taj Mahal has always been considered as the ultimate perfect example of Muslim art and architecture in India today. There is no other Indian structure that can match its perfect beauty. It was originally built by the Emperor Shah Jahan to honor in perpetuity his very gentle beautiful wife Mumtaz Mahal who unexpected died while giving birth to their 14th child. The Taj Mahal is one giant mausoleum made of the finest marbles and was built around 1648. It is located in Agra, India. Its Mughal (a Persian-speaking Islamic empire) design is an interesting blend of Persian, Turkish, Indian and Muslim architectural influences and remains as India’s most recognizable tourism attraction. It draws millions of curious foreign tourists from all over the world annually just to gawk at one man’s eternal love for his favourite wife. Interestingly enough, the emperor liked his wife so much that he mostly ignored a thousand concubines. The Emperor Jahan once wanted to build a black Taj Mahal for himself also as a duplicate to his wife’s white Taj Mahal but plans did not push through at that time. Emperor Jahan was eventually buried beside his wife when he died of dysentery and strangury (painful passage of urine) in 1666 at a ripe old age of 74. The Taj Mahal is a story of eternal love wonderfully written and constructed using the best marble available in the world. The couple rests in their combined mausoleum for all eternity. Until time ends.
